Alumni

Volunteer Opportunities
Get Involved!

There are plenty of opportunities for alumni to volunteer at Erskine, from providing career guidance to current students, to event planning, to fundraising, and to serving in leadership roles within the Alumni Association. Volunteering is a great way to reconnect with your classmates and your school and will help make a difference in the lives of our students.

Since its inception, the Erskine Academy Alumni Association has committed its efforts toward support for the mission of Erskine Academy. From contributing scholarship funds to deserving students, to assisting with school fundraising projects, to helping to fund the senior graduation parties and project graduation, the Alumni Association has played a vital role in keeping alumni connected to the school.

A recurring theme documented in the minutes from past EAAA meetings has been the desire to get more alumni involved in the Association and school activities. With the establishment of Erskine’s Alumni Relations program in 2006, it was determined that an important first step in achieving more involvement would be the formalization of bylaws for the EAAA. Thus, during the summer of 2006 an ad hoc Alumni Advisory Committee was convened to develop a set of bylaws. Volunteers on this committee included one alumnus/na from each of the most recent seven decades:

Robert G. Martin ’40
Mary Ellen Hold Peaslee ’50 P'70 '75
Rose Ring Parlin ’60 P'80 '87
Linda Dowe Poulin ’70
Dawn Duncan Fecteau ’81
Laurie Bickford Hayden ’94
Andrew D. Worcester ’01

The Advisory Committee met a total of four times and presented a final draft of their bylaws first to the Alumni Association Officers, and then to the Erskine Academy Board of Trustees. Approval of the EAAA bylaws was given by the Board on September 25, 2006, with the stipulation that they take effect beginning July 1, 2007.

A first task of the Advisory Committee was to articulate the purpose of the EAAA. What resulted is a clear “purpose statement” that will guide the activities of the EAAA into the future:

The EAAA keeps alumni connected to the school through events, correspondence, and volunteer opportunities. It fosters education and growth while maintaining traditions both old and new.

Members of the Alumni association volunteer to accomplish the special purposes of the EAAA which include hosting the annual Reunion Banquet and related activities, introducing current students to the responsibilities of being alumni, choosing an annual recipient for the Lifetime Achievement Award, holding an annual meeting, assisting with Homecoming and other campus events, and promoting alumni participation in fundraising activities.

See EAAA Bylaws for more information on EAAA purpose and policies.

Class Correspondents
Class Correspondents collect information from their classmates and submit that information to the school for regular publication in The Erskine Connector. Their regular contact with classmates is invaluable in helping to keep addresses and other contact information up to date. Class Correspondents are asked to commit to a term of five years and may be renewed indefinitely.

Class Agents
Class Agents assist the Development Office in securing Annual Fund contributions from their classmates, typically via mail, email, and/or phone contact, and reaching both cash and participation goals. Agents are provided with supplies needed to send thank-you notes to donors in their class. During a reunion year, it is recommended that the class agent recruit additional class members to assist in meeting reunion giving and participation goals. Class agents are asked to commit to serving a term of five years and may be renewed indefinitely.

Distinguished Alumni Award Committee
Members of the Lifetime Achievement Award Committee implement the open nomination and closed selection process for the Lifetime Achievement Award. See Nomination Form.

Erskine Flower Gardeners
Alumni assist in maintaining the Erskine flower gardens during the growing season.

Alumni Career Networkers
Alumni work with the Guidance Office in planning career networking opportunities with members of the junior class.
