Membership in the Erskine Academy Alumni Association has undergone a change. Beginning July 1, 2007, all Erskine alumni automatically became members of the Association without having to pay dues. Membership dues are no longer collected and all alumni can participate in alumni activities. This change was made in order to encourage alumni from all decades to become re-involved with the school.
Since being established in the 1960s by a group of loyal alumni, the Erskine Academy Alumni Association has helped keep alumni connected to the school and to each other. Going forward, the Association will continue to help alumni stay connected, but through a broader range of events and activities, and will become more involved in educating current students what it means to be an Erskine alum.
In September of 2007, a personalized membership card was mailed to each alumnus/a for whom the school has a current mailing address. Those alumni and associate members who supported the Alumni Association in prior years received a special Founding Lifetime Member card in recognition of their loyalty to the Association.
At the annual meeting of the alumni in June 2007 with 200 in attendance in the James V. Nelson Gymnasium, four new officers were elected to the Erskine Academy Alumni Association Executive Council. We introduce them to you:
Rebecca “Becky” Hapgood '88 – President
Becky is a 1988 graduate of Erskine Academy and a 1992 graduate of Thomas College with a degree in Business Management. While at Erskine, Becky participated in many sports and one of her most favorite memories is of her experience on the 1988 Western Maine Class C Championship basketball team.
She has lived in China since the age of five and is currently employed by the Town of China as the Town Clerk, a job that she has held for the past 13 years. She comments that she loves her job and her town, and she greatly enjoys chairing the China Community Days Committee, which is in its fourth year of “bringing the community together.” She continues to coach soccer, basketball, baseball and softball in her community.
Of course, the most important part of her life is her six-year old son, Sage.
Theresa Drouin Haskell '88 – Vice President
Theresa grew up in Windsor and was very involved in sports while attending Erskine Academy. She was a cheerleader, played softball and soccer and received an Eagle Award (for having played 10 varsity sports in four years).
After graduating in 1988, Theresa worked at Border Trust where she was a Branch Assistant Manager, and then at Sturdy Built Construction. Later she worked for her husband’s family business, C. B. Haskell Fuel Co., Inc. Two years ago she left the family-owned business and became the Tax Collector and Bookkeeper for the Town of Windsor. She is also the secretary for the Board of Selectmen, the Planning Board, and the Budget Committee. She is currently organizing Windsor’s first-ever annual “Windsor Days”, which took place on July 13-14, 2007.
Theresa is married to Darren Haskell ’85, she has two daughters (the oldest will attend Erskine in the fall), and she spends her free time with her family as well as coaching soccer and softball in Windsor.
Gayle Humphrey Green '60 – Activities Chair
Gayle graduated Erskine Academy in 1960. She was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in band, glee club, cheerleading and as a member of the Pinnacle staff. Her first job after graduation was secretary to the superintendent of the Waterville School Department and then she moved on to being a commercial insurance underwriter, which she did for the majority of the remainder of her career.
Gayle married former faculty member Peter McKenney and together they had two wonderful sons. She later remarried (now over 30 great years), and has lived in a number of places in Maine as well as in Florida and Nevada. Retired now and living in Windsor, she enjoys landscaping and “playing in the dirt” in her vegetable and flower gardens.
She is also very happy to be a part of the class of 1960. Many of her classmates have reconnected in the past few years and they enjoy frequent gatherings. Recently they honored former faculty member Beverly Hancock who has been a positive influence in so many lives, not just as a teacher but also as an example of integrity and ethics.
Chadwick A. Weber '90 – Finance and Fundraising Chair
“Chad” Weber graduated Erskine Academy in 1990 and immediately went on to serve in the Army’s only airborne interrogation company specializing in Russian language. In 1993, he continued his education at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he graduated in 1996.
After attending UNC, Chad moved back north and received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law. He is a member of the Bar in both Maine and Massachusetts and works at Smith Barney on a team of financial advisors who work predominantly with business owners, corporate executives and institutions.
Chad is the Class Agent for his class at the UM Law School, and he lives in Cumberland with his wife Jennifer Grimshaw Weber ’90 and daughters Lauren and Kathryn.
