The School
Erskine Academy is a private high school serving the Maine communities of Chelsea, Jefferson, and Whitefield (Union #132); Palermo, Somerville, and Windsor (Union #133); China and Vassalboro (Union #52). The Academy presently has an enrollment of 748 students. Erskine is situated in the village of South China, Maine, on approximately 25 acres of land.
Founded in 1883 by Mary T. Erskine, the Academy is governed by a Board of Trustees. The five-member board is responsible for the overall management of the School.
The school administrators include Headmaster, Associate Headmaster, Assistant Headmaster, Guidance Director, and Athletic Director. There are 56 teachers and seven Educational Technicians on the faculty. Erskine employs a fulltime Technology Director and Director of Development and Alumni Relations. There is a full-time R.N., as well as Nurse Practitioner services. The support staff includes the Business Office head and assistant bookkeepers, two guidance counselors, administrative assistants, custodians, cooks, and bus drivers.
